Darryll J. Pines
President and Glenn L. Martin Professor of Aerospace Engineering at University of Maryland, College Park
Darryll J. Pines is an aerospace engineer who has served as the 34th president of the University of Maryland, College Park since July 2020, becoming the first Black president in the institution's history. He joined the Maryland faculty in 1995, chaired the Department of Aerospace Engineering from 2006 to 2009, and then served eleven years as dean of the A. James Clark School of Engineering before being named president. His research covers structural dynamics, structural health monitoring, smart sensors, and guidance and control of aerospace vehicles. He was elected to the National Academy of Engineering in 2019.
