Raphael Bostic
Former President and Chief Executive Officer at Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta
Raphael Bostic served as the 15th president and chief executive officer of the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta from June 5, 2017 until his retirement at the end of his term on February 28, 2026. On his appointment he became the first Black person and the first openly gay person to lead a regional Federal Reserve Bank. Before joining the Atlanta Fed he was a professor at the University of Southern California's Sol Price School of Public Policy and served as assistant secretary for policy development and research at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His research has focused on homeownership, housing finance, neighborhood change, and the role of institutions in policy effectiveness.
Notable Achievements
- First Black person and first openly gay person appointed president of a regional Federal Reserve Bank, in 2017.
- Served as a member of the Federal Open Market Committee as president of the Atlanta Fed.
- Received a special achievement award at the Federal Reserve Board of Governors for research on the Community Reinvestment Act.
- Held the Judith and John Bedrosian Chair in Governance and the Public Enterprise at USC from 2012 to 2017.
- Served as assistant secretary for policy development and research at the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the secretary's principal policy adviser, from 2009 to 2012.
