Alister Martin
Commissioner at New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
Alister Martin is an emergency physician who became Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene on January 31, 2026. He practiced emergency medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital and was an assistant professor at Harvard Medical School. He founded Vot-ER, a nonpartisan organization that embeds voter registration in healthcare settings, along with Get Waivered, GOTVax, and Link Health, and served as CEO of the nonprofit A Healthier Democracy. He was a White House Fellow in the 2021-2022 class, advising the Office of the Vice President.
