Jerome Adams
Executive Director of Health Equity Initiatives and Presidential Fellow at Purdue University
Jerome M. Adams is an anesthesiologist and public health leader who served as the 20th Surgeon General of the United States from 2017 to 2021, the fourth African American confirmed to the post and the first anesthesiologist to hold it. Before that he was Indiana State Health Commissioner from 2014 to 2017, where he led the state's response to an HIV outbreak tied to injection drug use. Since October 2021 he has been Purdue University's first executive director of health equity initiatives and a Presidential Fellow and professor of practice.
